Dr. Josh Axe, DC, DNM, CN – Summertime: trips to the beach, family cookouts, warm nights and … sunburn? Unfortunately, even if you’ve slathered on sunblock religiously, those UV rays can sneak through and leave you with a painful, itchy red burn. While I believe some sensible sun exposure is essential for your health to prevent vitamin D deficiency, too much of a good thing can lead to damaging sunburn or sun poisoning that could increase your risk of skin cancer and premature wrinkles. If after a long summer day, you’ve spent too much time outdoors under the hot sun, thankfully there are many natural sunburn remedies that actually work. How do you make a sunburn go away fast? If you’re wondering how to treat sunburn fast, you don’t have to go further than your kitchen cabinets with natural sunburn treatments like black tea and oatmeal. Are you fan of essential oils and keep them around your home? If the answer is “yes” then that’s great news since essentials oils are another great form of natural sunburn treatment. What Is a Sunburn? So what is a sunburn, anyway? A standard sunburn definition: inflammation of the skin caused by overexposure to ultraviolet radiation especially from sunlight. How long does a sunburn last? Typically, it lasts several days. A sunburn occurs when the sun or another ultraviolet light source hits your unexposed body and exceeds what your skin can handle. This prompts your skin to release melanin, its protective pigment. Here are a few interesting facts: A fair-skinned person can get a sunburn in less than 15 during intense midday sun. It could take hours for a dark-skinned person to get burned in that same type of sun exposure. Interestingly, the sunburn process starts setting in before it’s even visible to the naked eye; the first effects may not show up for several hours. Blisters related to sunburn could take hours to days to develop. It could take a full 24 hours for a sunburn’s full effects to surface. Causes If you spend too much time in the sun without clothing or sunscreen to protect your skin, it can cause your skin to burn or tan. What causes some people to burn while others are more likely to get a suntan? It depends upon the level of a pigment called melanin in the skin. People with fairer skin have less melanin while people with darker skin have more. When the rays of the sun cause damage to the skin, the skin manufacturers more melanin in an effort to protect it from further damage. This causes skin tone to change color. For lighter skinned individuals, the skin is more likely to turn red. Do sunburns turn into a tan? Sometimes a sunburn will naturally turn into a tan if peeling can be avoided. However, you should never allow a sunburn for the sake of hopefully getting a tan eventually because you are damaging your skin! Symptoms Sunburn symptoms include: Skin pinkness or redness Skin that feels warm or hot to the touch Pain and tenderness Sunburn itch Swelling Small fluid-filled blisters, which may break Headache, fever, nausea and fatigue (if you have severe sunburn) A sunburn rash or “sun rash” (hives and blisters on top of a sunburn), sunburn chills or fever, and nausea are all signs of sun poisoning. Diagnosis For your doctor or dermatologist to diagnosis a sunburn, he or she will likely examine your body, ask about your symptoms and history of sun exposure. Conventional Treatment What is the best treatment for sunburn? According to the American Academy of Dermatology, many dermatologists will recommend conventional sunburn treatment that looks something like the following: Take cool baths or showers often to decrease pain. When drying off, leave a small amount of water on the skin and then apply a moisturizer to help trap water in your skin and increase skin hydration. (This is a great natural sunburn remedy, too!) Aloe vera and soy are helpful ingredients to look for in a conventional sunburn cream. If you’re dealing with something worse than a mild sunburn or you’re experiencing discomfort, over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream is another conventional sunburn treatment. Using conventional pain relievers such as aspirin or ibuprofen to decrease sunburn swelling, redness and discomfort. Drink extra water to prevent dehydration. (Also, makes the list of natural sunburn treatments for sure!) If your skin blisters, this means that you have a second degree sunburn. Leave the blisters alone (in other words, do not pop or pick at them!) because they are helping your skin heal and guarding against infection. How long does it take for a sunburn to heal? According to the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), “Unlike a thermal burn, sunburn is not immediately apparent. Symptoms usually start about four hours after sun exposure, worsen in 24–36 hours, and resolve in 3–5 days.” According to the Mayo Clinic, treating sunburn with even the best sunburn relief does not heal your skin, but it can help to improve pain, swelling and discomfort. Natural Remedies How do you make a sunburn go away fast? If your sunburn is not severe, using home remedies for sunburn promptly and consistently can really help to improve a burn fast. 1. Pantry and Fridge Staples (Used Topically) If you’re trying to figure out how to heal sunburn naturally, you may be surprised to find out that many items in your kitchen can help when used topically! Here are some common food items that can help relieve sunburns: Oatmeal is proven to relieve itchy dry skin and reduce inflammation as burns heal. Enjoy its healing effects by blending dry oats in a blender or food processor until its finely ground and smooth. Add a cup of oatmeal to warm bath water (not hot!) and spend some quality time soaking. Milk can also help to reduce skin pain and heat. You can either create a cold compress by dunking a washcloth in chilled milk and applying it directly to burnt areas or by adding about a cup of cold milk to a cool bath and soaking. Make sure its whole milk so you can benefit from the helpful natural fat content. Black tea isn’t just delicious to drink, it’s also great at reducing sunburn’s redness and quickening the recovery process. In a pitcher, soak a few bags of black tea. You want to do this until the water is super black. Then use a washcloth to apply it to the affected areas and don’t rinse. The tannic acid in the tea, which gives it the dark color, eases the heat and provides much-needed relief. Yogurt contains probiotics and lactic acid, which make it an excellent choice for reducing redness and soothing the skin. Choose a full-fat, plain yogurt and apply it gently on the sunburnt areas. Let it sit for about 10 minutes and then wash off in the shower. Cornstarch can reduce the painful chafing that occurs when your inflamed skin sticks to the bed sheets at night. While using it means you’ll be doing laundry the next day, sprinkling cornstarch over the sheets will reduce friction and create a barrier between your skin and the sheets, allowing for more comfortable sleep during sticky nights if your sunburn is exceptionally painful. 2. Aloe Vera and Coconut Oil When you’re in the midst of your natural sunburn treatment, your body is desperate for moisture. Applying moisturizers like pure coconut oil and aloe vera gel can really help to improve a burn. Aloe vera is so helpful that it’s a common conventional recommendation as well. It’s even sometimes called the “burn plant” because it’s such an effective natural remedy for a bad burn. You can buy a bottle of pure aloe vera or you can use a leaf of an aloe vera plant by splitting it open and applying the sap to your skin. Hint: Store a bottle of aloe or an aloe vera leaf in the refrigerator for an extra blast of soothing coolness upon application. 3. Hydrating Foods There are a lot of natural topical remedies for sunburns, but if you want to know how to get rid of sunburn fast, you don’t want to forget some internal help as well. It’s a great idea to “moisturize” from the inside out by eating foods with high water content. Snack on fruits like oranges and watermelons, which are high in vitamin C and promote healing. In fact, watermelons are about 92 percent water. Also drink plenty of water and electrolyte-rich drinks like coconut water. While healing from sunburn, avoid alcohol and sugary foods, which can increase inflammation and slow down the relief process. 4. Apple Cider Vinegar Did you know that you can use apple cider vinegar for sunburn? You might not smell great, but you’ll likely feel a whole lot better when you include apple cider vinegar (ACV) in your sunburn-fighting routine. Apple cider vinegar uses cover many health areas, but ACV will also soothe burnt skin. Add a cup to a cool bath along with ¼ cup of coconut oil and a few drops of lavender essential oil for a healing soak. No time for a bath? You can also make a 1:1 solution of vinegar and water in a spray bottle or dip a washcloth into the solution and dab on the affected areas. 5. Essential Oils They’re not just for helping your home smell nice or easing stress and anxiety, there are also essential oils for sunburn. I recommend two common favorites: Peppermint oil is a natural analgesic, or painkiller. It also helps soothe burnt areas by providing a cooling sensation. Bonus: because peppermint oil is also effective at alleviating headaches, it can help with the after-sun headache some people suffer from. Lavender oil is another essential oil go-to for sunburns. It can help to reduce the sting of burns and decrease redness. With its antioxidant, pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory properties, it’s the perfect choice to speed up healing, allowing your body to recover faster. Are you wondering how to treat a sunburn with essential oils? This home remedy for sunburn incorporates both lavender and peppermint essential oils, along with aloe vera juice and coconut oil for sunburn relief. How to Prevent It’s possible to get a burn from the sun even when it’s cloudy or cool outside. It’s also important to note that UV light is stronger at high altitudes and the sun’s rays are easily reflected onto the skin when you’re near sand, water or snow. Key tips for avoiding a burn from sun exposure: Aim to be in the shade if you’re going to spend extensive time outdoors, especially between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. when the sun’s rays are at their strongest. Apply a natural sunscreen to all exposed skin (and make sure your sunscreen isn’t expired). Put on additional sunscreen every 40 to 80 minutes, or sooner if it has washed off from swimming or sweating. Wear clothing and hats to protect skin. Wear sunglasses that block both UVA and UVB rays. Stay hydrated with non-alcoholic fluids, especially water. Nutrients found in specific foods are also known to help prevent sunburns, often in a time-dependent manner: Vitamin C and E: Vitamin C can be found in citrus fruits, peppers, guava and broccoli while many nuts like almonds and sunflower seeds are great sources of vitamin E. Beta-carotene: Foods like carrots, pumpkin and sweet potatoes are rich in beta-carotene. Lycopene: Delicious summer time foods like tomatoes and watermelon are high in lycopene. Fish oil: The sunburn response may be reduced by dietary fish oil rich in omega-3 fatty acids. Final Thoughts According to the CDC, you should seek medical attention for a bad sunburn with sunburn blisters that cover over 15 percent of your body, you have a high fever, experience dehydration and/or you feel extreme pain for longer than 48 hours. Of course, it’s always best to avoid sunburns in the first place. However, I don’t advocate completely barring yourself from the sun. Usually a few minutes is all someone needs to get sufficient vitamin...

Rachael Link, MS, RD via Dr. Axe – The apple cider vinegar diet — an eating plan that involves simply adding a few spoonfuls of apple cider vinegar to your daily diet — may sound right on par with other fad diets that have long faded into obscurity. However, it’s actually a powerful ingredient that has been revered for its medicinal properties for centuries, and research shows that it may help boost metabolism, enhance fat-burning and support satiety to promote long-lasting weight loss. So how do you use apple cider vinegar for weight loss, and what exactly is the apple cider vinegar diet? Here’s what you need to know. What Is the Apple Cider Vinegar Diet? With the multitude of positive apple cider vinegar diet reviews and before-and-after shots out there, you may be wondering what this popular diet plan entails and how it can impact your health. As the name suggests, apple cider vinegar (ACV) is a key component of the ACV diet plan. This food is a type of vinegar made from apple cider that has undergone fermentation, resulting in a final product that is lower in calories and sugar, plus packed with gut-boosting probiotics and healthy enzymes. There are several different versions of the organic apple cider vinegar diet, but it’s typically a very simple concept that involves consuming one to two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar before or with each meal. Not only can this keep you feeling fuller for longer, but some also claim that it can boost metabolism, ramp up fat-burning and keep blood sugar levels steady to minimize hunger. Other variations also exist, many of which pair it with other ingredients used for weight loss. For example, some suggest consuming it with garcinia cambogia, a tropical species of plant that has been well-studied for its ability to reduce appetite and prevent weight gain. Eating apple cider vinegar and garcinia cambogia together is done in an effort to amplify results and speed up the metabolism. A combination of ACV and honey, or ACV and olive oil, can also be consumed before meals, often with other ingredients like spices or fruit juice added into the mix. Why Apple Cider Vinegar Works for Weight Loss: 6 Benefits 1. Enhances Satiety People often use ACV for weight loss thanks to its powerful impact on satiety and appetite. In fact, one study published in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition showed that consuming apple cider vinegar with white bread not only decreased blood sugar levels, but it also increased feelings of satiety. This is a benefit that may be helpful for people with type 2 diabetes. Another study conducted by Arizona State University found that drinking vinegar with meals reduced caloric intake by 200–275 calories over the entire day, which could be incredibly beneficial for weight loss. You may find that consuming ACV with meals keeps you feeling full faster, and for a longer period of time, so add it to your diet if you’re trying to reduce calorie intake. 2. Boosts Fat-Burning When paired with a healthy diet and regular exercise, there’s no doubt that ACV helps with weight loss and fat-burning. Animal models show that acetic acid, one of the main compounds found in apple cider vinegar, can help block body fat accumulation by altering several specific genes and proteins involved in fat storage. Similarly, a small study out of Aichi, Japan found that drinking 15–30 milliliters of vinegar each day led to significant reductions in belly fat, body weight and waist circumference compared to a control group. 3. Stabilizes Blood Sugar One of the hallmark signs of low blood sugar is increased hunger and cravings. As blood sugar levels start to dip, hypoglycemia symptoms such as hunger, fatigue and weakness can start to set in. Fortunately, adding an apple cider vinegar weight loss drink to your daily routine can help stabilize blood sugar levels to prevent sudden spikes and crashes. One study actually found that drinking ACV helped reduce blood sugar levels after a meal by 31 percent. It’s also been shown to improve insulin sensitivity, which allows your body to use insulin more efficiently to optimize blood sugar control. 4. Increases Metabolism In addition to decreasing appetite and food intake, apple cider vinegar may also support weight loss by increasing your metabolism and bumping up the number of calories that your body burns each day. For example, an animal study conducted by the Central Research Institute actually suggeststhat certain compounds in apple cider vinegar, especially acetic acid, were effective at activating AMPK, a type of enzyme involved in metabolism and energy levels. Researchers noted that acetic acid has beneficial effects on glucose homeostasis in type 2 diabetes and supports healthy metabolism. 5. Improves Insulin Resistance Research indicates that ACV may improve insulin sensitivity to high-carbohydrate meals among adults with type 2 diabetes. A 2020 animal study published in the Journal of Diabetes Research found that daily consumption of apple cider vinegar can reduce the rise in blood sugar and lipid profile in rats with a high-calorie diet. A 2021 systematic review and meta-analysis including nine studies shows that there are significant favorable effects of ACV consumption on fasting plasma glucose and blood lipid profiles. 6. Improves Cholesterol Levels A 2014 study published in the Journal of Membrane Biology found that ACV is able to lower cholesterol levels in mice fed high-cholesterol diets. Researchers suggest that the food possesses oxidative stress scavenging effects, increases antioxidant enzyme and vitamin levels, and inhibits the free radical chain reaction that causes bad cholesterol. The Apple Cider Vinegar Diet Plan Although there are several ways to add ACV into your daily health routine, it’s most common to drink a small amount before each meal. How much should you drink for weight loss? Drinking one to two tablespoons diluted with water before each meal is most often recommended. However, it’s best to start with a lower dose and gradually increase to ensure you’re able to tolerate it. Apple Cider Vinegar Diet Drink Recipe If you’re not a fan of drinking apple cider vinegar as is, there are many different apple cider vinegar diet recipe options out there that you can try out instead. Typically, these involve mixing ACV with some water, juice and a mix of herbs and spices to boost both the flavor and health benefits of the final product. For those just getting started, try Dr. Axe’s Secret Detox Drink, which is made from apple cider vinegar, lemon juice and hot water, along with some ginger, cinnamon, cayenne pepper and raw honey. All of these compounds contain powerful medicinal properties that work together to support better health. Other Ways to Use ACV In addition to drinking your ACV, there are plenty of other possible apple cider vinegar uses to consider as well. For example, it can be used to make sauces, marinades and salad dressings, all of which can be enjoyed as part of a healthy, well-rounded apple cider vinegar diet. Apple cider vinegar pills are also available as a quick and convenient option for getting in your fix of ACV. However, research is limited on the effects of apple cider vinegar capsules, and it’s unclear whether or not they may boast the same health benefits. Besides weight loss, apple cider vinegar may even work to: Whiten teeth Kill bugs and fleas Treat poison ivy Enhance circulation Heal warts Promote skin health Relieve sunburns Risks and Side Effects What are the side effects of drinking apple cider vinegar, and can you drink it every day? Because of its acidity, some of the most common apple cider vinegar diet side effects include erosion of tooth enamel and burning of the throat or skin, especially if large amounts are consumed. To reduce the risk of adverse side effects, it’s important to keep intake in moderation and always dilute apple cider vinegar with water prior to consumption. As a general rule of thumb, each tablespoon should be mixed with about one cup of water. For some people, drinking it can cause negative symptoms like nausea or digestive issues, especially when first starting out. Be sure to start with a low dose and work your way up gradually to assess your tolerance. It may also not be advisable for those taking medications for diabetes, as it can lower blood sugar levels and interfere with your medications. If you notice any negative side effects or have any concerns, it’s best to consult with your doctor to determine the best course of treatment for you. Finally, keep in mind that the diet plan is unlikely to be effective unless paired with a nutritious, well-rounded diet and healthy lifestyle. Although ACV can help amplify results, it shouldn’t be viewed as a quick-fix for weight loss all on its own. Final Thoughts The apple cider vinegar diet involves consuming one to two tablespoons of ACV before each meal. In some cases, it may also be combined with other ingredients. Garcinia cambogia and apple cider vinegar diet, for example, is another popular variation, and many people also use honey and apple cider vinegar for weight loss as well. ACV can help promote weight loss by increasing metabolism, supporting satiety, boosting fat-burning and stabilizing blood sugar levels. There are plenty of detox drinks and ACV recipes ideas out there, making it easy to squeeze in a few servings throughout your day. In order to maximize apple cider vinegar diet plan weight loss results, be sure to combine ACV with a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle. To read the original article click here.

Dr. Josh Axe, DC, DNM, CN – With autumn in full swing, you might have noticed fruit butters appearing at your local farmers market. Have you tried them before? They are a delightful spread to dip fruits and veggies in or slather onto toast. And one of my favorite types of fruit butters — especially this time of year — is slow cooker apple butter made from nutrition-rich apples. Apple Butter vs. Apple Jam Now, you might confuse apple butter with jam, but they aren’t the same. See, jams are made from crushed or chopped fruit that are combined with sugar, pectin to thicken the mix and sometimes lemon juice. It’s all puréed together to eliminate any chunks of fruit. Fruit butters combine the entire fruit, including the peel, with spices and sugar. Because there is no pectin, the fruit takes longer to cook down. But the added amount of time actually works to your benefit; it’s what puts the “butter” in “apple butter,” as it becomes super spreadable. Yum! Why Use A Slow Cooker? That’s why the slow cooker comes in handy for this Crockpot Apple Butter recipe. Instead of having to remain vigilant over a pot on the stove, you can add all the ingredients into the slow cooker and go. And trust me, the smell that will be coming from your slow cooker is better than any scented candle you could burn! Key Ingredients So what makes a great homemade apple butter? And what are the best apples for a crockpot apple butter? Like most recipes with few ingredients, the quality of apple is important here. When possible, opt for local, organic varieties. Often a mix a few different kinds provides the best flavor. Softer varieties of apples such as Fuji, Golden Delicious, Jonathan or Jonagold can work well because they cook down faster. One of the underrated parts of apple butter is the fact that it uses cinnamon and apple cider vinegar, two ingredients that come with a ton of benefits. The health benefits of cinnamon are impressive. The spice is packed with antioxidants, which help reduce free radical damage and can slow down aging. Cinnamon also contains powerful anti-inflammatory effects, protects heart health and fights infections and viruses. As little as 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon can really make a difference in your body. Apple cider vinegar is another natural ingredient that’s beneficial to our bodies. When ingested, apple cider vinegar detoxes your body by balancing pH levels, stimulating the cardiovascular system, bowel mobility and lymphatic drainage. It’s also an effective treatment for acid reflux and heartburn while killing off excess yeast. That means this apple butter isn’t just tasty, it’s great for your body, too. How to Make Apple Butter It’s time to get this slow cooker apple butter going! Start by adding all the ingredients into the slow cooker and let the apple butter recipe cook for the next six hours. Stir every two hours. Once the slow cooker apple butter is ready, use an immersion blender to blend the apples. No immersion blender? Then blend in batches in a high-powered blender. Then do a taste test. Add a little maple sugar to sweeten to your liking and stir in. (I prefer mine without any added maple sugar). Then store the apple butter recipe in a mason jar. This slow cooker apple butter will keep for up to three months in the refrigerator, but I doubt it will last that long! Slow Cooker Apple Butter Recipe With autumn in full swing, you might have noticed fruit butters appearing at your local farmers market. Have you tried making one yourself? It’s surprisingly easy and this apple butter recipe will delight. INGREDIENTS 10 apples, peeled, cored and sliced 1 cup organic apple juice ¼ cup apple cider vinegar 1 tablespoon cinnamon ½ tablespoon ground clove 2–3 cinnamon sticks maple sugar, optional INSTRUCTIONS Place all ingredients in a slow cooker and cook on medium heat for 6 hours. Stir every couple of hours. Turn off the slow cooker and using an immersion blender, blend the apple mixture until smooth. If you don’t have an immersion blender, blend in two batches in a high-powered blender. Optionally sweeten with maple sugar, to taste. Store in a mason jar in the fridge for up to 3 months.

Dr. Don Colbert – If you suffer from allergies, it can be difficult to find relief. They seemingly affect many people year-round. From pollen to dust to molds, it’s tough to get away from allergens and alleviate allergy symptoms. However, there are steps you can take to improve the situation. Here are why allergens often affect us, and the 3 best natural ways to alleviate allergy symptoms. Allergies: Numbers and Methods Allergies are common. In fact, according to the CDC, more than 50 million Americans now suffer from allergies each year (1). At their core, allergic reactions are inflammatory responses and may occur most often in those who have greater inflammatory reactions in general. In fact, studies show that those with seasonal allergic reactions and asthmatic allergies have higher underlying inflammation even when they are not showing symptoms (2). These results have led experts to believe that reducing the underlying inflammation may improve asthmatic and allergic conditions. Here are 3 strategies to help you alleviate allergic reactions! 3 Natural Strategies to Alleviate Symptoms 1. SUPPORT YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM WITH THE RIGHT NUTRIENTS First and foremost, you can support your body with the right nutrients when fighting seasonal allergy symptoms. Four to consider are: OMEGA-3 FATTY ACIDS Start by consuming nutrients that reduce inflammatory reactions. Omega-3s from fish oil are the best source available. You can take a potent omega-3 supplement daily or consume fatty fish regularly. Of course, if you are “aspirin-sensitive” or on blood thinners, always talk to your doctor before starting or increasing fish oil. PROBIOTICS While it may seem odd that your gut has anything to do with sneezing and post-nasal drip, probiotics have been shown to help those with seasonal allergies. In fact, one study of 173 people who suffer from seasonal allergies found that taking a daily probiotic with lactobacillus strains significantly improved their “quality of life” scores from baseline to peak pollen compared to a placebo group (3). It is hypothesized that probiotics help to increase the percentage of regulatory T cells (Tregs) thereby improving allergen tolerance. ZINC, VITAMIN C, AND VITAMIN D AND MORE There are also vitamins and minerals that bolster immune response. Dr. Colbert’s Enhanced Multivitamin and Organic Divine® Health Green Supremefood® contain balanced amounts of important nutrients for the immune system and immune response. These include organic greens, probiotics, zinc, vitamin C, vitamin D, and more. APPLE CIDER VINEGAR While not exactly a “nutrient,” apple cider vinegar works against allergies in 2 ways: First, scientists have found that the bacteria in raw vinegar can actually improve immune factors and protect from an allergic reaction (4). Next, apple cider vinegar is a natural decongestant, and it causes your sinuses to drain when you drink it. While the relief is temporary, it is effective and reduces the risk of clogged sinuses becoming infected. How should you take it? ALWAYS dilute apple cider vinegar. Taken straight, it can damage your esophagus. Mix 1 Tbsp. apple cider vinegar, 4 oz. water, 1/2 tsp ginger, ½ tsp cinnamon, and stevia to taste. Take 2-3 times per day during allergy season. 2. OPTIMIZE YOUR DIET TO REDUCE INFLAMMATORY RESPONSES In addition to consuming anti-inflammatory and immune-supporting nutrients, it’s vital to vastly reduce pro-inflammatory foods and fats in your diet. How? ULTRA-PROCESSED FOODS First, identify and remove ultra-processed foods. Ultra-processed foods are the commercial, processed foods that contain a lot of processed fats and sugars. These foods and the carbohydrates and fats in them promote inflammation, weight gain, abnormal blood glucose, elevated blood pressure, and more in the body. If you want a healthy body and immune system, start by reducing any ultra-processed foods in your diet, if needed. PROCESSED OMEGA-6 FATTY ACIDS Second, remove as many potent, processed sources of omega-6 fats as possible. Processed omega-6s act as an antagonist to omega-3s in the body, and work to increase inflammatory factors and reactions. How can you remove them? The best way is to look at every single item you buy with an ingredient label, and avoid all products with soybean oil. Then, take it a step further and avoid all those with high omega-6s. The full list and steps can be found here. 3. CLEAN UP YOUR ENVIRONMENT TO REDUCE ALLERGENS Whether you’re inside or out, allergens come from your environment. Here are a few steps you can take to reduce your allergen contact while still enjoying the health benefits of the great outdoors. LEAVE YOUR SHOES OUTSIDE Shoes have a way of trapping pollen on them and then depositing it all over your floor surfaces if worn inside. Instead, remove them at the door and leave them outside. KEEP YOUR FLOORS AND COUNTERS AS CLEAN AS POSSIBLE Dust mites cause many allergy symptoms. You can decrease dust mites in your home. Dust regularly, vacuum, and use a HEPA filter. Wash floors and surfaces regularly. These tasks can help reduce dust mites and thereby seasonal allergies and symptoms. KEEP WINDOWS AND DOORS CLOSED Especially if you live in an area with high pollen counts, keep windows and doors closed. Pollen blows around most in the Spring, and typically in the early hours of the day. Keep windows and doors closed to avoid pollens blowing inside. Instead, use an air conditioner if you feel too warm. Make sure to change the old filters as they will most likely be full of dust, pollen, and mold. Installing an air purifier with a HEPA filter will also help to remove allergens from the interiors. TAKE SHOWERS OFTEN AND CHANGE CLOTHES AFTER BEING OUTSIDE Clothes and hair are pollen magnets, so take them off and rinse as soon as possible! Instead of dragging the pollen inside and sitting it in, shower and change. REMOVE POLLEN BEFORE YOU LIE DOWN Consider showering before bed, changing pillowcases daily, and sheets regularly. If you go to bed with pollen in your hair, it can stay on your pillowcase for days. Then, you’re essentially sleeping in pollen! Keep these soft surfaces as clear of pollen as possible to get a good night sleep and wake up feeling better rather than worse. KEEP YOUR NOSE CLEAN The environment of your nose is also an important consideration. If you can get the allergens out that are trapped inside your nose, you can alleviate allergies. To do so, try all-natural nasal sprays and/or a neti-pot flush. At most stores and pharmacies, you can find nasal sprays with simple ingredients like baking soda, salt, and purified water. These sprays flush out your nasal passages. When used a few times per day they can ease allergy symptoms, especially if you begin using it proactively before strong symptoms begin. BOTTOM LINE Allergies are a reality for many, many adults. However, you can use our strategies to gain relief immediately. Alleviate allergy symptoms with healthy nutrients, a “clean” anti-inflammatory diet, and an improved personal environment. Then, let us know how these tips helped you!

Dr. Josh Axe, DC, DNM, CN – Our most popular condiment, ketchup seems like an innocent addition to our burger or to accompany our sweet potato fries, right? Well, it’s pretty full of sugar and sodium. Per tablespoon, ketchup contains 4 grams of sugar and 190 milligrams of sodium. Four grams of sugar may not seem like much, but all of it comes from added sugar rather than the natural sugar found in tomatoes. Instead, make your own! It’s surprisingly easy, tasty and nutrition-packed with this homemade ketchup recipe. Healthy Ingredients Sun-dried tomatoes: like tomatoes, they’re full of the powerful antioxidant lycopene Apple cider vinegar: can keep blood sugar in check and even amp up weight loss Raisins: when not overconsumed, raisins are a concentrated source of energy, electrolytes, vitamins and minerals Sea salt: rich in trace minerals (it’s difficult these days to get enough trace minerals from the foods we eat due to the lack of nutrient-rich soil) How to Make Homemade Ketchup You’ll be shocked to find out how easy it is to make your own ketchup. First, soak the sun-dried tomatoes for at least two hours in order to soften them up. Drain them after time’s up. Next, simply add the drained tomatoes, vinegar, raisins, onion powder and salt to a power blender or food processor. Blend on high, adding a little bit of water to help blending and increase the creaminess of the texture. Serve immediately or refrigerate. It will keep for at least a week. Homemade Ketchup Recipe DESCRIPTION Our most popular condiment, ketchup contains far too much added sugar to be considered healthy. Instead, make your own! It’s surprisingly easy, tasty and nutrition-packed with this homemade ketchup recipe. INGREDIENTS 1 cup soaked sun-dried tomatoes, soaked for 2 hrs ¼ cup apple cider vinegar ¼ cup raisins ¼ teaspoon onion powder 1½ teaspoon sea salt water, as needed to facilitate blending INSTRUCTIONS Soak the sun-dried tomatoes for at least two hours, then drain. In a blender, add tomatoes, vinegar, raisins, onion powder and sea salt. Blend on high, adding water as needed to facilitate blending and increase creaminess. Serve immediately or refrigerate.

Dr. Josh Axe, DC, DMN, CNS – Before there were sports drinks to rehydrate after intense physical labor or sugary drinks designed to boost energy levels, there was switchel, an all-natural drink similar to lemonade that’s experiencing a resurgence in popularity. Currently a favorite in “hipster” markets and upscale cocktail bars, thanks to its numerous health benefits and great taste, this centuries-old beverage is primed to become the next kombucha or kvass. Get ahead of the curve, and start sipping on this fermented drink today. What Is Switchel? Made from apple cider vinegar, fresh ginger, maple syrup and then cut with water, switchel’s arrival to America is hazy. Some say this “ginger water” came from the West Indies, where molasses was used instead of maple syrup. Others say it’s derived from oxymel, an ancient Greek medicinal elixir made from vinegar, honey and water. Wherever its origins, by the 18th century, “haymaker’s punch” was being guzzled down by American farmers during long work days to keep cool and stay hydrated in the heat. At the time, people thought throwing back warm drinks during hot days was better for the body, as it supposedly maintained the body’s equilibrium with the weather. And because farmers couldn’t drink alcohol while working on the fields, benefit-rich ginger was a safe second bet, as it produced a similar feeling to alcohol’s burn while going down. While their reasoning might not have been totally sound, it turns out these farmers were onto something. Switchel uses are numerous, in fact. Here’s why switchel should be your new favorite summer drink. Health Benefits 1. Ease inflammation Is switchel good for you? Yes! The ginger that makes up a key part of switchel is a natural inflammation reducer. Inflammation, causes physical symptoms like skin problems and digestive issues. So keeping inflammation at bay with the ginger found in switchel can have other unexpected, welcome side effects, like clearing up acne. Additionally, because it reduces inflammation, which also counts pain as a side effect, ginger is also a powerful pain fighter. In fact, one study found that consuming a small amount of ginger is more effective at reducing pain symptoms and inflammation than painkillers. 2. Get an electrolyte boost Electrolytes are nutrients or chemicals in your body that help it perform specific functions, like regulating your heart beat or telling your legs it’s time to get moving. But after undergoing intense physical exertion (like running a marathon), getting sick, eating a poor diet or even taking certain medications, electrolytes imbalance can occur. Signs that your electrolytes need some replenishing include constantly feeling thirsty, frequent headaches, fatigue and nausea. But because of the maple syrup and apple cider vinegar found in switchel, potassium-rich electrolytes, particularly potassium, are replenished, making it an excellent alternative to sugary drinks like Gatorade. Pour a glass after a tough workout on a hot day to feel refreshed and give help your body restore its electrolyte balance. 3. Enjoy a dose of apple cider vinegar By regularly drinking switchel, you’ll get all the terrific benefits of apple cider vinegar, including healing compounds, like potassium, magnesium and probiotics. Thanks to the many uses of apple cider vinegar, it’s one of my favorite natural remedies. It balances your body’s pH levels and, as a liver and lymphatic tonic, detoxes your body. Not bad for one of the most common household items! 4. Reap maple syrup’s sweet surprises If you’re using sweeteners, maple syrup is one of the top natural sweeteners. When used in moderation, it is an excellent alternative to cane sugar. Maple syrup affects blood sugar levels less than regular table sugar and includes trace antioxidants and minerals that regular sugar lacks. How to Make Switchel It doesn’t matter what time of year it is — switchel is delicious any season. Let’s make it! Switchel, unlike other trendy fermented drinks like kvass or kombucha, is quite easy to make at home. We’ve included a recipe below to whip up your own batch. Fill a 2-quart saucepan about two-thirds of the way with water and freshly chopped ginger. Bring the water to a boil and let the mix boil for about 2 minutes, then remove the saucepan from the heat and let the ginger steep for another 20 minutes. Then, in a pitcher, add maple syrup, apple cider vinegar and fresh lemon juice — yum! Now it’s time to add the ginger water. Use a strainer while pouring the water into the pitcher to keep the chopped ginger out. Stir all the ingredients together. That’s all there is to making this switchel! You can enjoy this drink either at room temperature or served on ice. You can even give switchel a little kick and add a splash of alcohol, like gin or vodka, to it. It’s a terrific drink to keep on hand to serve kids instead of sugary soft drinks or juices. They’ll love it, too! Switchel Recipe DESCRIPTION Before there were sports drinks to rehydrate after intense physical labor or sugary drinks designed to boost energy levels, there was switchel, an all-natural drink similar to lemonade that’s experiencing a resurgence in popularity. INGREDIENTS 1 cup ginger, chopped ½ cup maple syrup (add more if need it to be sweeter; you also can substitute molasses for a very old-fashioned taste!) ½ cup apple cider vinegar ⅔ cup lemon juice 6 cups water INSTRUCTIONS Fill a 2-quart saucepan 2/3 with water and add ginger. Bring water to a boil and allow ginger to boil for about 2 minutes. Remove from heat and let ginger steep for 20 minutes. In a 2-quart pitcher, add maple syrup, apple cider vinegar and lemon juice. Strain ginger as you are pouring into pitcher. Stir and mix all ingredients well. Can be served warm or on ice. *Add more water to dilute if needed. To read the original article click here.

Dr. Don Colbert – Can one substance actually be used to improve your health, promote good hygiene, beautify your skin, clean your house, and cook delicious meals? The answer is a resounding YES! Apple cider vinegar (ACV) is a highly nutritious and extremely versatile ferment that is both affordable and widely available at most grocery stores. This means you have little excuse for not utilizing this potent panacea in your everyday life! But before we get to the myriad benefits of this miracle tonic, let us first address what exactly apple cider vinegar is and why, with so many other kinds of vinegar available, apple cider vinegar is so special. All Vinegar is Not Created Equal! Crushed apples make apple cider. Alcoholic cider is made by fermenting apple cider with microorganisms that convert the sugar to alcohol. When you ferment alcoholic cider, the alcohol is turned into acetic acid resulting in apple cider vinegar. Unpasteurized and unfiltered apple cider vinegar includes the live colonies of bacteria and yeast responsible for the fermentation. These colonies are called “the mother.” The mother is the source of many of the health benefits of ACV. This is largely due to the living probiotic (beneficial microorganism) and enzyme content of the mother. You will know the mother is present by the appearance of a cloudy mixture at the bottom of the bottle. White vinegar, on the other hand, has been pasteurized and distilled, eliminating all the living organisms and drastically reducing the beneficial properties of the vinegar. Other vinegars such as balsamic (from red wine) have very high sugar content and issues with contamination from molds and fungus. For this reason, apple cider vinegar is generally considered the most beneficial vinegar that is widely commercially available. How to Use ACV A simple internet search for apple cider vinegar will yield hundreds of results touting its endless possible uses. So to make things easier for you we have compiled the uses and classified them into a list of the 5 areas of your life that can be the most considerably impacted by ACV. 1 ) Health -Apple cider vinegar has been shown to positively impact blood sugar levels and carbohydrate metabolism. This makes ACV beneficial in treating diabetes. Just 2 tablespoons in water before a meal can have a beneficial effect. -Additionally, single tablespoon of ACV a day has been shown to lower cholesterol and support weight loss! ACV can also help lower blood pressure. -For those who suffer from digestive ailments such as acid reflux or GERD, apple cider vinegar has proved to be highly beneficial. This is in part due to the naturally occurring probiotics and enzymes which help balance out the microbiome. -Some people also swear by the use of ACV for sore throat and congestion. 2 ) Hygiene -Unfortunately, many personal hygiene products on the market are loaded with toxic chemicals. Apple cider vinegar can serve as a natural non-toxic and affordable replacement to many hygiene products. -Use ACV as a hair rinse in the shower to balance out the PH of the scalp and help combat dandruff. -Dilute ACV in a small tub of water for an all natural foot soak to eliminate foot odor and nail fungus. -A dab of ACV under the arms can serve as an effective deodorant by killing underarm bacteria. 3 ) Beauty -Beauty products are also often riddled with harmful chemicals. For an easy and natural toner put some diluted ACV on a cotton ball to promote clear skin. -For men, a splash of ACV can be an invigorating (and strong smelling) natural aftershave. Combine with essential oils to combat the vinegar smell. -In addition to cleaning the hair, ACV can also be an effective conditioner to beautify the hair with a healthy shimmer. 4 ) Household Cleaning -The antimicrobial action of apple cider vinegar makes it effective as a natural household cleaner. Put some diluted ACV in a spray bottle and clean away! You can add essential oils to the concoction in order to make the smell more pleasant. -ACV is very effective at cleaning fruits and vegetables. -ACV can also be used to polish silver, bronze, brass, and copper. 5 ) Cooking -In addition to all of its other uses, apple cider vinegar is first and foremost a food! -ACV is perfect for sauces and dressings. A super simple salad dressing can be made with a combination of olive or avocado oil mixed with a splash of ACV and some salt and pepper. -A couple of tablespoons of ACV is an essential addition to a bone broth recipe as it helps leech the minerals from the bones creating a more nutritious broth. -You can also add ACV to your rice before cooking for a light and fluffy finished product. The Miracle Tonic With so many incredible uses for this amazing liquid, there is really no reason not to always have some around the house. If you feel overwhelmed by all the options presented here, the best way to start incorporating ACV into your life is with a morning miracle tonic. To create this drink simply add a couple of tablespoons diluted in a glass of water first thing every morning with a squeeze of lemon and a bit of honey to taste. This practice alone is guaranteed to energize you for the day and prime your digestion for optimal functioning. Do you have any uses for apple cider vinegar that we missed?

Dr. Josh Axe, DC, DMN, CNS – If you are feeling weighed down and sluggish, it may be time for my secret detox drink, which can help cleanse your body and make you feel rejuvenated. For many years, I’ve added detox drinks to my health regime because as toxins leave my body, I feel clear-headed and energized. Plus, recipes like this one don’t require a blender or juicer, so they are simple and easily accessible. This is a simple beverage recipe that takes only minutes to prepare and includes key ingredients for natural detoxification, including lemon juice, apple cider vinegar, ginger, cinnamon and cayenne pepper. It’s both refreshing and energizing, so give it a try today for the little boost we all need from time to time. Why Drink the Secret Detox Drink? Unfortunately, it’s nearly impossible to avoid the everyday chemicals that threaten your health, especially when they’re hidden in our clothing, furniture, soaps and shampoos. On top of that, we are constantly exposed to environmental pollutants, and dangerous chemicals in our foods like heavy metals, pesticides and preservatives. In order to avoid toxic overload that will leave you feeling fatigued, moody, bloated and achey, it’s a great idea to use detox drinks to help cleanse and purify your body. My secret detox drink contains some of the best ingredients for detoxification. Apple cider vinegar has shown to improve your metabolism and digestive function, while working to cleanse your liver and lymphatic system. Lemon juice has an alkaline effect on your body and helps to regulate your pH levels. Drinking lemon water, or adding it to your drinks and juices, can help to boost your energy levels, detoxify your body, keep skin glowing (thanks to vitamin C) and improve immune function. Cinnamon, cayenne pepper and ginger contain therapeutic compounds that help to reduce inflammation, aid digestionand boost your metabolism, which is a helpful step toward weight loss. That’s why drinking ginger tea, for example, is so popular. It contains valuable compounds that boost your health and promote detoxification. An optional ingredient for your detox drink is raw honey. I like to add raw honey to many of my health drinks and detox smoothie recipes because it’s a nutrient-dense natural sweetener. It adds a little sweetness to this drink while nourishing the body with antioxidants. INGREDIENTS: 1 glass of warm or hot water (12–16 ounces) 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar 2 tablespoons lemon juice ½–1 teaspoon ground ginger ¼ teaspoon cinnamon 1 dash cayenne pepper 1 teaspoon raw, local honey (optional) DIRECTIONS: Warm the water. Mix all ingredients together. Best served warm but drink at desired temperature.

Rachael Link, MS, RD via Dr. Axe – Today, ACV has re-entered the spotlight and is beginning to gain some well-deserved recognition for its potent health-promoting properties. Not only can it be used as a natural remedy to treat a variety of ailments, but it can also be added to salad dressings and marinades or used as an effective all-natural household cleaner and disinfectant. Despite its recent surge in popularity, the extensive list of apple cider vinegar benefits has been well-known for centuries. It’s been shown to keep blood sugar in check, amp up weight loss, and even improve the appearance of acne and scarring, among other apple cider vinegar benefits. Plus, apple cider vinegar consumption works great for the keto diet. But is apple cider vinegar good for you? And what is Bragg’s apple cider vinegar good for? Apple cider vinegar (ACV) uses range from soothing sunburns to giving your gut health a boost. Some even suggest that ACV cures cold symptoms and seasonal allergies as well as acid reflux. With at least 30 potential uses and a host of proven health benefits, this is a must-have item in your medicine cabinet. What Is Apple Cider Vinegar? Apple cider vinegar is a type of vinegar made from apple cider that has undergone fermentation to form health-promoting probiotics and enzymes, giving it significantly less sugar and fewer calories than apple cider or apple juice. In fact, it only takes one to two tablespoons of ACV to take advantage of the health benefits of apple cider vinegar and each tablespoon clocks in at just 3-5 calories and contains minimal sugar. ACV has been consumed for thousands of years. In fact, records show that we’ve been fermenting apple juice into vinegar since well before 5,000 B.C. Historically, ACV has been used for a variety of different purposes, such as helping to detoxify the liver, purifying blood, cleansing the lymph nodes and boosting immunity. In ancient Greece, Hippocrates even prescribed it mixed with a bit of honey to help cure coughs and colds. In the 17th century, Europeans began using vinegar medicinally. They started preparing it in syrups and antiseptics and even used it as a gargle to kill off germs. Today, ACV has re-entered the spotlight and is beginning to gain some well-deserved recognition for its potent health-promoting properties. Not only can it be used as a natural remedy to treat a variety of ailments, but it can also be added to salad dressings and marinades or used as an effective all-natural household cleaner and disinfectant. Apple Cider Vinegar Benefits vs. Apple Cider Benefits So what distinguishes apple cider from apple cider vinegar, and can they be used interchangeably? Apple cider is made from fresh pressed apples. It’s similar to apple juice but it’s not filtered or processed in the same way. ACV, on the other hand, is actually made from apple cider that has been fermented by yeast and bacteria, which turns the sugars into alcohol. It then undergoes a second fermentation process in which the alcohol is converted into acetic acid. This fermentation process accounts for the many health benefits of apple cider vinegar and is the reason why ACV is able to lower cholesterol, keep blood sugar levels stable and relieve acid reflux. Apple cider, on the other hand, may taste great but doesn’t provide the same wealth of benefits. 6 Apple Cider Vinegar Benefits 1. Regulates Blood Sugar Levels The ability of ACV to help maintain normal blood sugar is one of the most well-studied apple cider vinegar benefits. In one study, vinegar consumption was found to decrease blood sugar levels by an average of 31 percent after eating white bread. Similarly, an animal study showed that giving diabetic rats ACV for four weeks was found to significantly reduce blood sugar levels. ACV may also increase insulin sensitivity. Insulin is the hormone responsible for transporting sugar from the blood to the tissues where it can be used as fuel. Sustaining high levels of insulin can cause insulin resistance, which reduces its effectiveness and leads to high blood sugar and diabetes. A study in Diabetes Care showed that vinegar ingestion helped significantly improve insulin sensitivity by up to 34 percent in those with either type 2 diabetes or insulin resistance. To keep blood sugar levels stable, try diluting one to two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in 8 ounces of water and consuming before meals. Additionally, be sure to moderate carbohydrate intake, increase your consumption of fiber and protein foods and get in plenty of regular physical activity to drop blood sugar levels even more. 2. Enhances Weight Loss ACV has been in the limelight recently with fitness gurus and natural health experts alike recommending an apple cider vinegar diet to help drop unwanted pounds quickly. But is apple cider vinegar good for weight loss? And how much weight can you lose by drinking apple cider vinegar? There is a plethora of research out there confirming the benefits of apple cider vinegar for weight loss. In one study, consuming just two tablespoons per day of ACV over 12 weeks resulted in nearly 4 pounds of weight loss with no other modifications to diet or lifestyle. Studies show that ACV may also increase satiety, which can help reduce intake and amp up weight loss. In fact, one study showed that drinking apple cider vinegar actually decreased total caloric intake by up to 275 calories over the course of the day. However, just because apple cider vinegar benefits weight loss doesn’t mean that it should be used as a quick fix all on its own. In fact, if just drinking it alone, the amount of ACV weight loss will be minimal. To really see results, be sure to use it in combination with a healthy diet and active lifestyle. 3. Lowers Cholesterol Cholesterol is a fat-like substance that can build up in the arteries, causing them to narrow and harden. High blood cholesterol puts a strain on your heart, forcing it to work harder to push blood throughout the body. Apple cider vinegar can promote heart health by helping to keep cholesterol levels low. An animal study out of Iran showed that supplementing rats with ACV was able to reduce bad LDL cholesterol while also increasing beneficial HDL cholesterol. Besides including a tablespoon or two of apple cider vinegar in your diet each day, other ways to lower cholesterol fast include minimizing your intake of sugar and refined carbohydrates, including a good variety of healthy fats in your diet and eating a few servings of fish per week. 4. Improves Skin Health ACV doesn’t just affect your internal health; it has also been shown to treat acne and reduce scarring. Certain strains of bacteria often contribute to the development of acne. Vinegar is well-known for its antibacterial properties and has been shown to be effective against many strains of harmful bacteria. ACV also contains specific components like acetic acid, lactic acid, succinic acid and citric acid, all of which have been shown to inhibit the growth of Propionibacterium acnes, the specific strain of bacteria responsible for causing acne. These beneficial components may also reduce scarring. A study in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology showed that treating acne scars with lactic acid for three months led to improvements in the texture, pigmentation and appearance of treated skin as well as a lightening of scars. Adding some probiotic foods into your diet, using healing masks and toners and keeping your skin well-moisturized are some other effective home remedies for acne as well. 5. Reduces Blood Pressure High blood pressure is a major risk factor for heart disease. It forces the heart to work harder, causing the heart muscle to weaken and deteriorate over time. Apple cider vinegar benefits your blood pressure levels, helping to keep your heart healthy and strong. An animal study in Japan showed that giving rats acetic acid, the main component in vinegar, resulted in reduced levels of blood pressure. Another animal study had similar findings, demonstrating that vinegar effectively blocked the actions of a specific enzyme that raises blood pressure. Other natural ways to lower blood pressure include increasing your intake of magnesium and potassium, upping your fiber intake and swapping the salt and processed foods for whole foods. 6. Relieves Symptoms of Acid Reflux Gastroesophageal reflux disease, also known as GERD or acid reflux, is a condition characterized by acid backflow from the stomach up into the esophagus, causing symptoms like heartburn, belching and nausea. Acid reflux is often a result of having low levels of stomach acid. If this is the case for you, drinking apple cider vinegar may help provide relief from acid reflux symptoms by introducing more acid into the digestive tract to prevent acid backflow. For best results, dilute one to two tablespoons of ACV in an 8 ounce glass of water and drink just before eating. Additionally, remember to follow an acid reflux diet rich in vegetables, healthy fats and fermented foods to slash symptoms even more. What Is Apple Cider Vinegar Good For? Now that you know how healthy ACV is for you, what are the best ways to use apple cider vinegar? Check out these 30 apple cider vinegar uses so you can take advantage of apple cider vinegar benefits: 1. Boosts Gut Health By opting for organic raw apple cider vinegar, you can add a healthy dose of beneficial bacteria into your diet. This bacteria can enhance the health of your digestive system and deliver a host of added gut bacteria benefits like increased immunity and an improved ability to digest and absorb nutrients. Incorporate one to two tablespoons into your diet per day along with other fermented foods such as kombucha or kefir for best results. 2. Soothes Sunburns If you’ve spent a little too much time in the sun, ACV is a great natural remedy for soothing dry, sunburnt skin. Add a cup of ACV plus 1/4 cup coconut oil and some lavender essential oil to a lukewarm bath and soak to provide sunburn relief. 3. Regulates Blood Sugar Apple cider vinegar benefits your blood sugar levels and can even increase insulin sensitivity. Try making an apple cider vinegar drink by diluting one to two tablespoons in an 8-ounce cup of water and consuming before meals to keep blood sugar levels steady. 4. Fights Fungus Fungal infections like athlete’s foot, toenail fungus, jock itch or yeast infections can be easily treated with the help of ACV. Creating an antifungal spray is one of the most effective apple cider vinegar uses. Combined with other fungus-fighting ingredients, it can reduce symptoms and provide relief fast. 5. Improves Skin Health Apple cider vinegar benefits for skin include treating acne and reducing scarring. Known for its antibacterial and healing properties, apple cider vinegar benefits skin health by killing off strains of acne-causing bacteria. Try an apple cider vinegar toner to help enhance skin health. 6. Enhances Circulation Some studies have found that applying ACV to varicose veins could help reduce symptoms. Try combining with witch hazel and scrubbing in a circular motion to improve circulation and alleviate symptoms. 7. Treats Warts Want to get rid of a wart that won’t go away? Try soaking a cotton ball in ACV, applying directly to the wart and covering with a bandage overnight. Though it may take a while, repeating this a few times can cause the wart to eventually fall right off. 8. Heals Poison Ivy ACV is a natural remedy that can help soothe an itchy poison ivy rash. This is because it contains potassium, which may help reduce the swelling associated with poison ivy. Try applying a teaspoon directly to the skin a few times per day until it is healed. 9. Kills Bugs and Fleas If your dog or cat can’t stop scratching themselves, ditch the chemical-laden flea killers and try this natural remedy instead. Add equal parts water and apple cider vinegar to a spray bottle and apply to the...
