Joy Jensen via NaturalHealth365 – Cilantro refers to the leaves of the Coriandrum sativum plant – an annual herb that offers several health benefits. It’s a popular addition to many dishes because of its delicious flavor. However, this herb is not just tasty; it’s also packed with phytonutrients, antioxidants, and essential vitamins like vitamin C, K, and A. Known for aiding in blood sugar control and fighting the production of free radicals within the body, many studies show that it can help reduce the toxic burden of heavy metals. Many everyday things contain toxic metals, including the air, water, and even our food. While your body needs trace amounts of some metals (like copper), the big concern is often getting too many metals with no biological value, like mercury or lead. Research has also highlighted cilantro’s broader health benefits, particularly its potential role in managing metabolic health. A 2023 review published in Molecules found that Coriandrum sativum polyphenols exhibit protective effects against obesity, metabolic syndrome, and diabetes, further emphasizing its value as a functional food. Today, we’ll focus on cilantro and how to support your body’s natural detoxification process. See how cilantro targets toxins inside the human body Our bodies are regularly exposed to toxic metals like lead, arsenic, aluminum, and cadmium. Technically speaking, to be clear, aluminum is not a “heavy” metal – but, still quite harmful to human health. Unfortunately, those toxins can build up within the bones and muscle tissue. When these toxic metals reach dangerous levels, they cause chronic inflammation, poor nutrient absorption, and a variety of poor health outcomes, such as chronic fatigue and brain fog. Simply put, most holistic healthcare providers will tell you that the end result of too many metals in the body is oxidative stress – which can lead to impaired organ function, hormonal imbalances, cardiovascular damage, and an increased risk of cancer. Many studies have shown that cilantro works as a natural chelating agent, helping the body eliminate toxins. Other foods that help detoxify the body include garlic, wild blueberries, lemon water, spirulina, chlorella, barley grass juice powder, and Atlantic dulse. In addition, studies show that people suffering from mercury exposure began to feel more clear minded after they consumed a significant amount of cilantro over time. Other studies have shown that cilantro helps protect the body against oxidative stress caused by lead poisoning. Please note: When dealing with any kind of toxicity issues, it’s best to work with a qualified, holistic healthcare professional. You don’t want to cause more harm than good – when starting any detoxification program. Additional protective health benefits Beyond cleansing toxic metals from the body, cilantro offers many other significant health effects. For example, this herb helps prevent damage to the heart, aids in better sleep quality, and reduces the overall risk of oxidative stress, which supports healthy cell function. It also promotes a feeling of calmness, encourages normal blood sugar, supports brain health, and, thanks to the vitamin K it contains, supports bone health. Cilantro tea is often used to support good digestive health. Plus, the nutrients – like vitamin A – boost eye health, and cilantro oil even shows promise in fighting oral forms of candida. You can enjoy cilantro’s health benefits by consuming it fresh or taking concentrated extracts. While cilantro leaves are a delicious addition to many dishes, the fresh form of this herb goes bad quickly. So, to best harness the health benefits, consume them within a couple days of purchase.

Al Sears, MD, CNS – There is an invisible cause of disease-causing inflammation most people never think about… And it affects almost every patient I see at the Sears Institute for Anti-Aging. Let me tell you about one of them. By the time he came to see me, my patient was feeling extreme fatigue. He couldn’t focus at work. He had no appetite and was suffering from stomach upset. He described an overall sense of weakness and exhaustion. He’d already seen a doctor who sent him for standard blood work. But the results didn’t reveal anything out of the ordinary. His second doctor told him he had high blood pressure and prescribed one of Big Pharma’s beta blockers. But he didn’t feel any better… I told him that we were going to stop the medication and test for a suspicion I had. So I measured his heavy metals and found that his cadmium was 6 times the upper limit of normal. None of his previous physicians thought of testing for this. But I don’t blame them. It’s not something you typically learn in medical school.1 Another thing most traditionally trained doctors don’t know is that even so-called “acceptable” amounts of heavy metals trigger an inflammatory response. According to a 2022 study published in the European Journal of Inflammation, heavy metal toxins – including cadmium, lead, and mercury – have directly and indirectly been linked to an increased risk of: 2,3 Neurodegenerative diseases Heart disease Type 2 diabetes Autoimmune disorders Multiple sclerosis Kidney issues Osteoporosis Cancer And despite what the EPA tells us, there are no safe levels of heavy metal exposure. You see, exposure to heavy metals activates immune cells and stimulates the release of pro-inflammatory molecules, such as cytokines and chemokines. In turn, this leads to the development of oxidative stress. As blood levels of lead and other metals increase, this oxidative stress results in apoptosis – or cell death.4,5 My Patient Is Not an Isolated Case Unfortunately, heavy metal poisoning sneaks up on you over time, so symptoms are often overlooked or chalked up to other causes. I don’t know how my patient got so much cadmium (he isn’t a smoker), but it’s not hard to guess. Common sources are things you encounter every day… burning waste, cigarette smoke, car exhaust, coffee, some processed and refined foods like hydrogenated oils – even shellfish and tap water. My patient is not an isolated case. I’ve treated hundreds of patients for heavy metal toxicity. Chances are you have some level of exposure to heavy metals. You can have some level of toxicity from: Eating foods that contain metals – especially predatory fish, wheat cereals, certain root vegetables Inhaling it through the air Drinking water from tainted supply systems Taking medications or supplements containing high amounts of metallic elements Dental work that used “silver” amalgams Smoking But the biggest contamination comes from manufacturing. These poisons are used in producing things like pesticides, glass, wood preservatives, fertilizers, paint, batteries, plumbing, hobby paints, and ink. Personal care products are also a known source.6 Protect Yourself from Heavy Metal-Associated Inflammation with IV Chelation I recommended that my patient have chelation. At his next appointment, he told me, “I feel young again instead of tired and weak.” His blood pressure was also back to normal. At Sears Institute for Anti-Aging Medicine, I routinely test patients for lead exposure and other heavy metal toxicity. My patients are always shocked by the results. At my clinic, I’ve been helping patients use chelation for years to rid their bodies of heavy metals and other toxins. It’s a safe, easy, and fast solution, with a very low risk of side effects. IV chelation delivers calcium disodium EDTA directly into your bloodstream.7 In just about an hour, this “claw” binds to the heavy metals and toxins in your bloodstream and those that have accumulated in the fat in your tissues, like your liver, and pulls them out. EDTA is an effective procedure to remove toxic metals from human organs, tissue, and blood. Help to Detox Heavy Metals at Home While chelation therapy is the most effective way to purge heavy metals from your body, I understand not everyone can do it. There are ways to detox easily at home. Here’s what I’ve found works well: First, detox with dandelion. Greens from the plant stimulate the liver and act as a diuretic for excess water. Use 5 to 10 grams of dried leaves. Then flush toxins with chlorella. This edible alga binds to toxins and pulls them out of your body. Take 1 gram with breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You can increase the dose to up to 3 grams three times a day. Finally, add in milk thistle. This is still my go-to detoxifier. I have been able to document its capacity to heal damaged livers by measuring serum liver enzymes. Milk thistle is the plant Silybum marianum. I recommend 200 mg in capsule form twice a day. Look for dried extract with 80% silymarin.

Michael Greger M.D. FACLM via Nutrition Facts – Do calcium citrate and calcium carbonate have as much lead as calcium supplements derived from dolomite and animal bone? You may remember I’ve explored the role calcium supplements may play in reducing lead exposure during pregnancy and breastfeeding, but that assumes the supplements themselves are not contaminated. Supplements with lead? It all started with an extraordinary case report published in 1977, entitled “Lead-Contaminated Health Food.” As I discuss in my video Lead in Calcium Supplements, a doctor prescribed a dietary supplement for a young woman with painful periods. Not just any young woman, though. She was television and movie star Allison Hayes, famous for her roles in films such as Attack of the 50 Foot Woman. And, not just any physician, but Dr. Henry Bieler, physician to the stars, who told his patients to forget about toxic drugs; “food is your best medicine,” as you can see in an advertisement shown at 0:44 in my video. In this case, it was a calcium supplement made from horse bone. She took it every day, but got weaker and sicker, and by “1967, her acting career ended when she became unable to walk without a cane.” Ms. Hayes saw doctor after doctor after doctor, 22 in all, to no avail. She reported she concluded she had three options: “(1) commit suicide, (2) go to a psychiatrist to attempt to learn to live with the pain…; or (3) find the answer myself.” She had some friends drive her to a medical library. By then, she couldn’t even walk and had to be carried in. She sat on the floor inside the library, day after day, and finally came across a book on industrial toxicology that described what she soon realized was a classic case of lead poisoning. She paid to have the calcium supplement tested, and, indeed, it was full of lead. At first, she was relieved. “Then the anger set in.” Doctor after doctor had essentially dismissed her as hysterical, and, ultimately, she had to depend on herself to educate them. The silver lining was that, in a letter, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration actually credited “the intrepid actress for being ‘a key stimulus’” for the agency’s plans to start looking into regulating heavy metals in foods and supplements. Unfortunately, the letter arrived after Ms. Hayes had already died from leukemia, which may have been triggered by the lead poisoning or the 300 x-ray exams she got from those “22 baffled physicians.” Wouldn’t you think the supplement industry would clean up its own act? “It is unrealistic to expect the ‘health food’ industry and ‘wellness’ press to dampen their evangelistic promotion of these products on a unilateral basis,” that is, on their own. Where did the lead in her supplements even come from? Remember, she had been taking a calcium supplement made from horse bone. Lead gets stored in your bones, so when you take supplements made out of bones, you can get exposed. In that case, was that one calcium supplement just the “tip of an iceberg”? At first, we thought it was just from the bone supplements and dolomite, a mineral that can be contaminated with lead, but then calcium carbonate—oyster shell calcium, chelated calcium─was found to have comparable lead levels to animal bone, as you can see at 2:56 in my video. This inspired a comprehensive survey of the lead content of 70 different brands of calcium supplements. As you can see at 3:09 in my video, lead levels “varied by almost 300-fold,” with some two, three, or even four times the tolerable daily intake of lead for children. More than half of the most common, “natural source calcium supplements,” like those containing oyster shell, had lead ingestion rates exceeding the benchmark for children. A follow-up study confirmed that most calcium supplements from natural sources exceeded at least some of the most stringent lead standards, but the levels only got up to about 8 micrograms, whereas some of the synthetic sources were up to three times that, as you can see at 3:27 in my video. A small human study of calcium citrate was performed in which bone biopsies were taken before and after about five years of supplementation. As you can see at 3:49 in my video, there was no change in the control group, as expected, and only a statistically insignificant increase in the calcium citrate group. However, “one cannot assume that a given brand is uniformly safe, because some of their products may have high and others low lead levels.” What does this mean? “Patients and consumers ought not assume safe lead levels from preparations that have brand names or are supplied by recognized pharmaceutical companies”—that is, there’s no guarantee, even if we’re familiar with the manufacturer. There is some good news, though. After decades of concern, lead levels in calcium supplements have come down. In fact, they’ve come down so much that changes in lead levels in your blood, taking the average lead-contaminated calcium supplement, would be minimal at this point. So, these findings on lead contamination of supplements should be a cause for celebration, not alarm—at least according to a consultant to a calcium supplement manufacturer. What an amazing—and amazingly sad—story. KEY TAKEAWAYS The levels of lead in calcium supplements have decreased after decades of concern, but even widely recognized pharmaceutical companies and well-known brand names may not guarantee safety. Lead is stored in bones, so taking calcium supplements made from bones, for example, may give you exposure. Calcium carbonate (chelated calcium, or oyster shell calcium) has also been found to have comparable levels of lead to animal bone. In a survey of the lead content of 70 brands of calcium supplements, more than half were found to have lead ingestion rates exceeding the benchmark for children. Allison Haynes, famed actor from such films as Attack of the 50 Foot Woman, took a daily calcium supplement made from horse bone and deteriorated so greatly she became unable to walk. When doctors were unable to diagnose her, she pored over books at a medical library and, after reviewing a book on industrial toxicology, realized she had a classic case of lead poisoning. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration credited the late Ms. Haynes for being “a key stimulus” for its plans to consider regulating heavy metals in foods and supplements.

Karen Sanders via NaturalHealth365 – For years, natural healthcare professionals have sounded the alarm about the dangers of heavy metals in our food supply and immediate environment; even Western medicine is starting to take notice. In fact, the use of mercury in dental amalgams, vaccines, and consuming contaminated seafood like salmon can dramatically increase the risks for autism, Alzheimer’s disease, cancer, thyroid disorders, plus a host of immune-related disorders. Therefore, we ought to focus on removing heavy metals – before it’s too late. Naturally, the best way to minimize your risk for disease – is to avoid unwanted toxins from entering the body. But, like most people, getting rid of already consumed toxins ought to be a top priority. This Green Algae Binds to Heavy Metals and Ushers Them Out of the Body Recent medical research shows that chlorella, a single-celled micro-algae, can come to the rescue by flushing toxins from the body. Although chlorella (green algae) is regularly consumed by over 10 million people in Japan – giving it popularity that rivals that of vitamin C in the United States – most Americans have generally lagged in recognizing the phenomenal benefits of this superfood. Chlorella, and its detoxifying effects, have been the subject of medical research in the United States, Russia, and many countries throughout Europe. Chlorella’s unique molecular structure allows it to bind to heavy metals, including cadmium, mercury, arsenic, antinomy, and lead. A testament to chlorella’s binding capacities is that it has been used in mine shafts to collect residual metals. Researchers are particularly intrigued by chlorella’s ability to bind to – and eliminate – toxins in the body, but not essential minerals such as calcium, zinc, and manganese, almost as if the algae “knows” which substances belong in the body. It is chlorella’s high levels of chlorophyll that allow it to promote the processing of oxygen while helping to repair and grow healthy tissue. In addition to its detoxifying powers, chlorella can help reduce body fat, lower cholesterol and blood pressure and cleanse the excretory system. Wow! The Science on Chlorella Is Extraordinary A three-year study was performed at a foundry in Russia on people who had been exposed to high levels of toxic heavy metals. At the study’s end, researchers found that chlorella, administered along with the spice cilantro, succeeded in safely removing all heavy metals from the subjects’ bodies. Animal research has also demonstrated chlorella’s benefits. In fact, a study in which laboratory mice were given chlorella after being exposed to high amounts of cadmium – a toxic heavy metal. The data clearly showed that chlorella had a strong protective effect and even helped restore liver structure and function. A second study showed that mice given chlorella excreted more lead in their feces than mice that had not been given the algae – data that supports chlorella’s ability to help flush toxins from the body. The chlorella group of mice also absorbed significantly less lead in their kidneys and livers. Animal studies also support chlorella’s anticancer powers. Chlorella has been found to promote apoptosis, or programmed cell suicide, in liver cancer cells in rats. Apoptosis does not normally occur in cancer cells – although it is part of the metabolic process of normal cells; thus, any substance that promotes cancer cell apoptosis is viewed with great interest by medical researchers. In a scholarly review, published in 2011, in the Journal of Environmental and Public Health – the authors listed chlorella as among the natural substances that are “enormously valuable in facilitating excretion and reducing biochemical toxicities.” The authors speculated that chlorella’s mechanisms of action could include preventing the absorption of toxins, diminishing their toxicity through protective mechanisms, and hindering their recycling in the body. Taking the RIGHT Variety of Chlorella Is Key to Access its Exceptional Nutritional Profile Not only is this superfood composed of 50 percent protein, but it also contains all the amino acids needed to form additional proteins. Large amounts of vitamin C and antioxidant carotenoids are also found in chlorella, along with iron, vitamin K, and B-complex vitamins. Chlorella can be used to enhance vitamin B and protein levels, making it especially beneficial for vegans and vegetarians. However, the tough cell walls of chlorella can make it difficult to digest its nutrients. As the cell walls play an important role in binding with heavy metals and ushering them from the body, scientists needed to find a way to disturb the integrity of the cell walls without negating their benefits. Consuming the “broken-cell” variety of chlorella will allow your body to access its nutrients. Keep in mind, once heavy metals have entered the cells – it’s much more challenging to detoxify the body. Although chlorella is great for preventing the digestion of ‘new’ heavy metal debris – seriously toxic individuals may need other supplements (or protocols). Finally, depending on the degree of digestive inflammation, when you try to mobilize toxins – be sure you’re eliminating them properly to avoid negative (often serious) side effects. Here Is How to Use Chlorella and What You Should Pay Attention To Chlorella is available in tablet, powder, and liquid forms and in two different varieties: Chlorella vulgaris and Chlorella pyrenoidosa. Although some experts believe that Chlorella pyrenoidosa has the more potent detoxifying effects of the two, it’s worth noting that Chlorella vulgaris has also performed well in laboratory studies. Whichever type you use, make sure it is in the broken-cell-wall form. And, because chlorella can harbor toxic elements from the environment, it is important to obtain it from a trusted, reputable source. The usual recommended serving of chlorella is between 2 and 5 grams a day. Using the powder in recipes for bread or cookies helps to mask the taste, which some find objectionable; you can also mix powdered chlorella into a favorite beverage or simply take it in tablet form. In a world where our bodies are besieged daily by chemtrails, GMOs, and other environmental pollutants – this tiny green alga known as chlorella can have enormous benefit as a powerful ally against toxic heavy metals.

Rutgers University via News-Medical Net – Exposure to metals such as nickel, arsenic, cobalt and lead may disrupt a woman’s hormones during pregnancy, according to a Rutgers study. The study appears in the journal Environment International. Exposure to metals has been associated with problems at birth such as preterm birth and low birth weight in babies, and preeclampsia in women. However, little is known about how metals exposure can lead to such problems. This new research shows that some metals may disrupt the endocrine system, which is responsible for regulating our body’s hormones. These disruptions may contribute to children’s later health and disease risk. A delicate hormonal balance orchestrates pregnancy from conception to delivery and perturbations of this balance may negatively impact both mother and fetus,” Zorimar Rivera-Núnez, Study Lead Author and Assistant Professor, Department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology, Rutgers School of Public Health The researchers analyzed blood and urine samples from 815 women enrolled in the Puerto Rico Test site for Exploring Contamination Threats (PROTECT) study. Initiated in 2010, PROTECT is an ongoing prospective birth cohort studying environmental exposures in pregnant women and their children around the northern karst zone, which include urban and mountainous rural areas of Puerto Rico. They found that metals can act as endocrine disruptors by altering prenatal hormone concentrations during pregnancy. This disruption may depend on when in the pregnancy the mother was exposed. Prenatal exposure to metals can have enormous consequences even beyond health at birth. Alterations in sex-steroid hormones during pregnancy have been associated with inadequate fetal growth, which leads to low birthweight. Birth size is strongly associated with a child’s growth and risk of chronic diseases, including obesity and breast cancer. “Puerto Rico has one of the highest rates of Superfund sites of any of the U.S. jurisdictions with 18 active sites, which can contribute to the higher rates of exposure to toxic metals,” said Rivera-Núnez. Among pregnant women, metal exposure is higher in those living in Puerto Rico than in those in the continental United States. “This is important because, compared to the U.S. overall, women in Puerto Rico have significantly higher rates of preterm birth [nearly 12 percent] and other adverse birth outcomes. Additionally, exposure to environmental pollution is exacerbated by extreme weather events, such as hurricanes, droughts and flooding, which may result in elevated exposures to Superfund sites,” she added. According to the study authors, future research should investigate how changes in markers of endocrine function affect birth and other health outcomes. Future studies also should look at essential metals in relation to maternal and fetal health, and metals as mixtures in relation to markers of endocrine function.

Damon Hines via NaturalHealth365 – From coast to coast, America’s drinking water supply is threatened by a variety of sources: plastics, pesticides, pathogens, PFAS, lax standards, and aging infrastructure create a perfect storm of toxicity. On July 28, 2010, the United Nations declared this issue to be a human right under International Law. Today, more than ten years later, 30 million people in the U.S. live in areas where they lack access to safe drinking water, two million people are denied access to running water and basic indoor plumbing, and over 110 million are exposed to toxic chemicals in their drinking water. America’s water is troubled but what’s more troubling is the lack of initiative to better enforce environmental safety laws, push for new legislation, and hold those parties – Big Government, Big Business, Greedy Policymakers – accountable for the ongoing water crisis. “Like a blood test for a disease, you only find what you test for” Erin Brockovich, the activist and clean water pioneer, makes this statement in her book Superman’s Not Coming: Our National Water Crisis and What We the People Can Do about It. Pollutants and toxins are everywhere, from the biological to the chemical, from the hazardous wastes and byproducts of industry and agriculture to chlorine and disinfectants. There are over 40,000 chemicals on the market, and only a few hundred are regulated. With so many dangerous chemicals, how do we know what to test for? The fact is: every city delivery system is different. For example, in Flint, Michigan, the national headline was about high lead levels. The same held true for Newark, New Jersey. In 2014, algal blooms and runoff from farms in the Lake Erie watershed shut down the Toledo, Ohio drinking water system. Other common toxic offenders include TCE (used in dry cleaning and refrigeration), hexavalent chromium (an anticorrosive agent), and PFASs (otherwise known as “forever chemicals”), which have become the latest headline grabber in the U.S. The CDC lists PFAS as potential carcinogens and endocrine disrupters. “A cocktail of chemicals all the time” The water crisis in Flint, Michigan wasn’t a one-off event. According to Seth M. Siegel, “We are ingesting, in micro quantities, a cocktail of chemicals all the time.” A 2018 study found that 21 million people in the U.S. were receiving water from utilities that violated the Safe Drinking Water Act. Many of these people live in rural, low-income areas. The health hazards of contaminated water are as numerous as the toxins polluting the systems. Chronic exposure to toxic byproducts have been linked to liver, kidney, and nervous systems problems, as well as increased risks of cancer. Outbreaks of E. coli, norovirus, giardia, and cryptosporidium have all contaminated water supplies. And Legionnaires’ disease, a type of pneumonia, and other pathogens, are known to grow in aging pipes and infrastructure. It’s going to take more than an Brita filter to fix America’s troubled waters. It’s a public health crisis that We the People need to solve … by pushing for change, new legislation, and by bridging the gap between clean resources and human rights.

Christine M. Dionese, L.Ac, MSTOM via NaturalHealth365 – Are you consuming nature’s perfect superfood? Found in barley grass, wheat grass, alfalfa, leafy greens, algae and blue-green algae, chlorophyll was found – in a study by Oregon State researchers – to offer protection against cancer, infections and blood disorders, especially from aflatoxin – a fungus associated with causing liver cancer and hepatitis. “We showed that aflatoxin is absorbed quite rapidly and that chlorophyll and chlorophyllin have an ameliorating effect, preventing the toxin from getting into the bloodstream,” – John Mata, second author of the study. Chlorophyll Helps to Crush Cancer Cells Chlorophyll is nature’s sunshine-producing superfood. The phytochemical responsible for giving plants their vibrant green hue, chlorophyll helps oxygenate and detoxify blood, assist in building strong bones, improve digestion, elicits anti-carcinogenic activity and helps improve blood pressure. Aflatoxin – found in food sources such as corn, soybeans and peanuts – can be fatal when overconsumed. This fungus has been associated with causing liver cancer and playing a part in the development of hepatitis. When exposed to chlorophyll in live human subjects – aflatoxin was destroyed! Researchers at Oregon State University were excited to publish their findings in the journal Cancer Preventive Findings. This was a particularly noteworthy study to support the efficacy of chlorophyll given its “phase 0” approach. Phase 0 refers to human volunteers subjecting themselves to conditions where small doses of therapeutic agents are used to draw measurable results. Because this type of study directly tests human subjects, the method increases study integrity. Chlorophyll Is a Dynamic Digestive Aid It’s no secret that an unbalanced diet can lead to poor digestive motility. Refined foods, those low in fiber and high in fat are difficult to metabolize often leaving us feeling fatigued and bloated. In small amounts taken daily, chlorophyll can help break down these stubborn foods to mobilize their waste products more easily from the colon and may mildly reduce constipation. Once properly metabolized, chlorophyll can help “liberate” helpful nutrients from foods such as fats for absorption. Are You Reducing Your Exposure to Heavy Metals? Chlorophyll behaves like a sponge, absorbing environmental toxins from the body such as PCBs, dioxin, mercury and other heavy metals. Chlorophyll helps eliminate these toxins from the body as well. Words of caution: Avoid buying pond scum. Before choosing a supplement, be sure to verify the source’s quality. Plants that are commercially prepared often contain pesticides and other harmful soil, water and environmental contaminants. Be sure your chlorophyll meets these guidelines: Grown in sunlight Grown in human-made conditions outdoors, not “naturally occurring” ponds or bodies of water Pools of water should be sheltered from potential outside environmental toxins such as rainfall and other pollution If you derive your chlorophyll supplementation from chlorella a form of algae, be sure to select broken cell wall and USDA organic.
