					<description><![CDATA[<p>Sara Middleton via NaturalHealth365 &#8211; Public health officials commonly compare COVID-19 to seasonal influenza, often insisting that the former is far deadlier than the latter. Epidemiologists use figures such as the infection fatality rate in order to make these types of claims. But how truthful are they? Earlier in October, the World Health Organization (WHO) released a bulletin that calls into question just how deadly the SARS-CoV-2 virus really is. Estimates of death from SARS-CoV-2 “much lower” than initially believed, according to Stanford study On October 14, 2020, the WHO released the results of a peer-reviewed study by Stanford University professor and physician, Dr. John Ioannidis. His study estimates the infection fatality rate of COVID-19 and the virus that causes it, SARS-CoV-2. Quick refresher: Infection fatality rate is the proportion of individuals who die of a disease compared to all infected individuals, whether they are diagnosed or not Case fatality rate is the proportion of individuals who die of a disease compared to all individuals with confirmed cases As you might imagine, it can be difficult to determine infection fatality rate – how do you know, after all, how many people have a disease if they haven’t even been diagnosed?  But historically, experts use surveillance and other methods to make their best possible estimates. And these estimates matter, according to experts like Ioannidis. Infection fatality rates give officials an idea of “the probability of dying for a person who is infected,” which can help drive prevention measures and treatment. You might also see how a disease could appear far deadlier than it actually is if only looking at the case fatality rate.  Why?  Because there could be many people with a disease who are never diagnosed and therefore aren’t accounted for when calculating case fatality ratio. So, what did this recent study find? In his study, Ioannidis analyzed the best available data from 61 studies and 8 national preliminary estimates. Here are a few of his main conclusions: The median COVID-19 infection fatality rate was 0.27% In areas of the world with more than 500 deaths per 1 million people, the infection fatality rate was 0.57% In areas of the world with 118–500 COVID-19 deaths/million people, the infection fatality rate was 0.20% The rate was just 0.09% in locations with COVID-19 population mortality rates less than the global average For people younger than 70 years old, infection fatality rates ranged from 0.00% to 0.31% – with a corrected median of just 0.05% (less than the commonly cited infection fatality rate for the seasonal flu of 0.1%) In his conclusion, Ioannidis states the “infection fatality rates tended to be much lower than estimates made earlier in the pandemic.” What numbers should we believe? Confusion rages about COVID-19 as we enter cold and flu season Ioannidis’s data is not alone, and other studies are also investigating how deadly this virus truly is. For example, a September 2020 study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine found that people younger than 40 had an infection fatality rate of just 0.01%. The same study – which analyzed community-dwelling individuals from the state of Indiana – also estimated that people older than 60 had an infection fatality rate of a whopping 1.71%, but that the overall rate was 0.26%, nearly the exact same as Ioannidis’s findings. Estimates can vary a lot depending on the location, population age, and other factors, so interpreting this data can be difficult. Many of these studies also have several limitations, including the possibility of response bias, false-positives, and misdiagnoses. So, what’s the bottom line? Estimates are just that – estimates.  Nobody knows for sure how deadly COVID-19 truly is right now. But preliminary data indicates it’s certainly not as deadly as initially believed … which calls into question the decision to shut down the global economy during the pandemic. In the meantime, we don’t recommend sitting by and waiting for the statistics to shake out. Take this time to maximize your immune health: Get good sleep Eat an organic diet, as much as possible Minimize your exposure to unwanted (toxic) household and personal care products Reduce indoor air pollution, use a good quality air purifier Stay physically active Take vitamin C, D and zinc And, of course, practice some common-sense preventive measures, like washing your hands and avoiding exposure to sick people.  Never forget: the key to a healthy life is a strong immune system. It should not be interpreted to mean that the only &#8216;real&#8217; coronavirus deaths are the ones where the patient had no underlying conditions.&#8221; Since God created us with immune systems to fight disease, Johnson points out we should work on improving our health to make us less vulnerable to serious complications from viruses like COVID. &#8220;We need to stay as healthy as possible, because that way our body is better able to fight off the virus if it enters our body,&#8221; she explained on CBN Newswatch. &#8220;Believe it or not, doctors recommend eating less sugar because new research shows too much sugar can blunt our body&#8217;s ability to fight off the virus.&#8221; Johnson spoke with Dr. Michael Goran, a sugar researcher at USC who said since COVID could be with us for a while, now is a good time to give up sugar. &#8220;Clearly a high sugar diet in the long term is going to contribute to longer-term increases in your blood glucose levels,&#8221; he began. &#8220;And what these studies are showing is that when you have a higher blood glucose level in general it contributes to this kind of broad, across-the-body, low-grade state of inflammation that comes along with that high blood glucose.&#8221; &#8220;And so what these studies are showing is that when you have that low-grade inflammation across the body, when you actually get an infection, like from COVID-19, the response becomes a little abnormal and the body responds to the low-grade inflammation throughout the body instead of just attacking the COVID. So it&#8217;s not a good thing to have broad-scale inflammation in the body when your immune system needs to fight COVID-19.&#8221; &#8220;The combination is not very good and you have a greater amount of complications to the infection because the thinking is that the immune system is attacking other parts of the body instead of the COVID 19,&#8221; he explained. Dr. Goran just wrote a book called Sugarproof that comes out on September 1, and it&#8217;s all about how sugar harms children. The book offers practical advice about how to get them off the sweet stuff and even includes recipes. Childhood obesity is a known problem in America, but even skinny kids often eat too much sugar which can adversely affect their development. It can cause attention problems, anxiety and inflammatory conditions such as asthma and acne. And beware that even if you&#8217;re buying organic cereal and goat milk yogurt don&#8217;t think they are low in sugar. Meanwhile, the head of the Food and Drug Administration says he&#8217;s open to fast-tracking a COVID-19 vaccine before clinic trials are completed. Dr. Stephen Hahn told the Financial Times that, under the right circumstances, an emergency authorization could be approved while stage three trials are still underway. Dr. Hahn said the drug company would have to request emergency authorization before the FDA makes the decision. He stressed that pressure from the White House would not influence the decision. Recently, CBN News spoke to a doctor there who says the death rate remains low. He also explained why the virus affects some people more harshly than others. Doctors say when a person becomes infected with COVID-19 their blood type can make a big difference in how sick they get. &#8220;This is kind of a curious thing, but if you have A+ blood type you probably have about a thirty percent greater chance of ending up in the hospital than if your blood type is O,&#8221; Dr. Charles Lockwood, dean of the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine in Tampa told CBN News. Young people tend to avoid hospitalization, too, and that&#8217;s largely who&#8217;s testing positive, causing the death rate to plummet. &#8220;From at one point, about five percent to about 1 point. As of today, 1.5 percent in the state and in Tampa, in Hillsborough County, it&#8217;s actually below one percent. It&#8217;s .09 percent. So that&#8217;s one of the lowest case fatality rates on the planet, quite literally,&#8221; Lockwood noted. School children carry the lowest risk of both acquiring the infection and becoming very ill. &#8220;For the most part I think schools should reopen,&#8221; Lockwood explained. &#8220;There are some areas of the state where I might not be quite as enthusiastic, but for the most part I think we are going to be OK.&#8221; Florida hospitals reportedly made it past the peak. &#8220;We know that emergency room visits for COVID-like illnesses and influenza-like illnesses are dropping, and that&#8217;s the first sign that things may be improving,&#8221; Lockwood said. Doctors now rely on treatments they didn&#8217;t have before, such as Remdesivir and the affordable Dexamethasone, both scientifically proven to work and readily available. But it’s hard not to be disillusioned when finding out that SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes the respiratory illness COVID-19, appears to be far less deadly than previously believed.  In fact, new nonprofit research indicates that the fatality rate of COVID-19 isn’t all that much different than the fatality rate of the seasonal flu. The reason we’re finding out more about COVID-19 as time goes on is because of increased antibody testing and other investigative measures that are beginning to draw some answers. Such answers can’t come soon enough, as far as we’re concerned – not when the threat of mass vaccine programs with a rapidly developed drug is bearing down on the global public. Just How Deadly Is COVID-19, Really? Data Suggests Fatality Rate of Pandemic Disease “Comparable” to Seasonal Flu The case fatality rate (CFR) of an infectious disease is calculated by taking the total number of deaths and dividing it by the total number of infections. But when you consider that the the true number of infections of COVID-19 isn’t known, this makes finding an accurate CFR a bit difficult, to say the least. As noted in a recent release by the nonprofit organization Physicians for Informed Consent (PIC), the CFRs of COVID-19 in various American cities are estimated as follows: Los Angeles: 0.12% Santa Clara County (CA): 0.17% Miami-Dade County (FL): 0.23% Arizona: 0.24% New York City: 0.52% These CFRs were estimated based on a combination of public health records and data from research institutions. As you might notice, there isn’t one single CFR of COVID-19 – nor for any type of infectious disease for that matter. Why? Simply because so many different factors can affect how many people end up dying of a disease in different parts of the world, including socioeconomic status, physical environment (think of the microcosm that is NYC), age, overall health status, cultural practices and norms, and (of course) whether testing is even accurate. That said, based on their analysis, PIC was able to determine that the average CFR of COVID-19 is 0.26% (a figure surely brought up by the insane pandemonium that happened in New York City).  This figure is “comparable” to CFRs of many previous seasonal and pandemic flu periods. Just take a look at some of them: 2017-2018 flu season: 0.14% 2016-2017 flu season: 0.1% 1957-1960 flu pandemic: 0.28% 1918-1920 flu pandemic (Spanish flu): 2.25% What may be even more surprising to know is who readily admits that COVID-19 may not be all that different than the seasonal flu we experience every year in terms of death rates: Dr. Anthony Fauci himself! Along with his colleagues, Dr. Fauci recently acknowledged in a March 2020 article from The New England Journal of Medicine that if one were to assume “that the number of asymptomatic or minimally symptomatic cases is several times as high as the number of reported cases, the case fatality rate may be considerably less than 1%. This suggests that the overall clinical consequences of COVID-19 may ultimately be more akin to those of a severe seasonal influenza.” Right. And yet we certainly don’t go around shutting down the economy during severe flu seasons, do we? Even while being a bit more conservative than Fauci’s assumption, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) still estimates that well over a third (35%) of all SARS-CoV-2 infections are asymptomatic and therefore, we can presume, undiagnosed and unreported. When these unreported cases are factored in, says PIC, we end up with the overall CFR for COVID-19 of 0.26% – or, as Dr. Fauci said, “considerably less than 1%.” Meanwhile, the CDC estimates that for the 2019-2020 flu season, as many as 62,000 flu deaths have occurred in the U.S. Importantly, this number is based only on flu-related deaths occurring in hospitals, and does not include non-hospitalized people who may have died of the flu this year. Hands up: how many of us “forgot” about the flu season this year … maybe because the media seemed to forget all about it, too? As the Push for COVID-19 Vaccine Increases, Doctors Warn Against Mass Vaccination and Express Concern for Public Safety Making vaccines is big profitable business. And even though some people are calling for any future COVID-19 vaccine to be free to the public, plenty of other experts are exercising necessary caution over the urge to mass vaccinate. For example, founder and president of PIC, Dr. Shira Miller, logically points out that “safety studies of any potential COVID-19 vaccine should be able to prove whether or not the risks of the vaccine are less than the risks of the infection.” She goes on to add: “Regardless of proof of safety, however, a potential COVID-19 vaccine should only be voluntary, in order to safeguard a patient’s human right to determine what will happen with his or her body.” Here, here! Even the suggestion that we must “prove” we are immune to COVID-19 with a vaccine certificate or immunity passport is absurd and frighteningly Orwellian. And as we learn more every day about the true impact and severity of COVID-19 for the vast majority of people, the idea of a mass vaccine for COVID-19 becomes a harder and harder pill to swallow, no pun intended.
