Damon Hines via NaturalHealth365 – Skin cancer affects more than 3 million people each year. Sunscreen is designed to protect us from skin cancer, but how safe are the popular brands we apply to our skin every summer? Here’s something to think about as the warm weather arrives: Sunscreens were first regulated by the FDA in the 1970s, long before current American guidelines for evaluating drugs were put into place. It should come as no surprise then that sunscreens didn’t undergo rigorous testing. However, what is shocking is that many of the sunscreens on the market today are more harmful than beneficial, and some even contain a cancer-causing chemical. According to a recent report by Valisure, an independent team of scientists that test the chemical composition of healthcare and medication products, benzene, a known cancer-causing chemical, was found in 78 sunscreen and after-sun products tested. In fact, “27% of samples tested by Valisure contained detectable benzene and some batches contained up to three times the conditionally restricted FDA concentration limit.” High Levels of Benzene Linked to Blood Type Cancers Benzene is a colorless or slightly yellow flammable liquid that’s naturally found in the environment. It’s often used as a solvent in manufacturing plastics and other products and is commonly found in gels, sprays, and lotions. While benzene is allowed in products like sunscreen up to a certain level, high concentrations of the toxic liquid are dangerous and can increase the risk of blood cancers like leukemia. But why is benzene, a toxic carcinogen, even allowed in these products on a small level? According to David Light, founder, and CEO of Valisure, “Benzene is one of the most studied and concerning human carcinogens known to science. Its association with forming blood cancers in humans has been shown in numerous studies at trace levels of parts per million and below.” Valisure’s report isn’t the first time the potential health risks of sunscreen have made headlines. Over the years, studies have linked the chemicals in sunscreen to everything from hormone disruption to bioaccumulation in organs and tissue to severe allergic reactions. In addition, there have been concerns that sunscreen prevents the body from making vitamin D. While most experts have concluded that sunscreens are unlikely to affect the vitamin D status of healthy individuals, the debate is reignited every summer. In other words, the real biological effect of sunscreen in your blood is as bad as a cloudy day at the beach. All the BURNING Questions About Sunscreen Safety Answered Valisure is currently urging the FDA to recall the sunscreen products that contain high levels of benzene. A full list of the sunscreen products can be found here, on page 12 of the citizen petition Valisure wrote to the FDA on May 24, 2021. As for which sunscreens are the safest, you can check out the Environmental Working Group (EWG) website and download the EWG’s Guide to Sunscreen. Here you will find a list of brands that contain safer ingredients, making it easy to choose a product that is the best fit for you. What’s the bottom line? If you plan to spend time in the sun this summer, make sure the sunscreen you apply is benzene-free and double-check the expiration date. Better yet, engage in a combination of sun protection methods: hat, umbrella, plenty of breaks, and time in the shade, along with benzene-free sunscreen.

Edit Lang via NaturalHealth365 – Although the wireless industry claims that exposure to wireless radiation is “safe,” numerous studies have shown that EMF radiation is harmful to the human body. Each day, we are exposed to more wireless, cellular, microwave, and electric fields than ever before in history. No matter how hard we try, it is impossible to completely avoid EMF exposure and still participate in our modern society. Thankfully, new research reveals an easy way to help protect ourselves against the damaging effects of EMF radiation. Is 5G a breakthrough innovation or a threat to human health? The use of radiofrequency (RF) EMF is on the rise, despite the overwhelming evidence revealing its potential to harm humans. One of the most alarming ways RF-EMF damages the body is by increasing oxidative stress. Free radical damage and oxidative stress are involved in cancer onset and numerous chronic diseases. Even though EMF safety is highly controversial, plenty of evidence exists to justify the WHO IARC’s decision to classify RF-EMF as a “possible human carcinogen.” Many are concerned with the potential danger that 5G has in store for humankind. Governments around the world are aggressively rolling out their 5G infrastructure. The technology uses submillimeter and millimeter waves and relies on EHF (extremely high frequency) ranges between 6 GHz and 100 GHz – and beyond. Although the physiological effects of 5G systems are unknown, preliminary observations showed that millimeter waves trigger a host of processes that can be devastating to our bodies. Hundreds of members of the international scientific community have been urging regulators to conduct further studies to explore how millimeter waves affect human health. WARNING: EMF harms your health in many ways A substantial body of evidence confirms that EMF exposures inflict widespread damage on the human body. EMFs attack our nervous and endocrine systems and produce oxidative stress. The radiation can alter our cells’ DNA, elevate programmed cell death, lower fertility, and even cause cancer. The risks are real, yet, most users are unaware of the potential harm. EMFs have also been linked to life-threatening cardiac effects, early-onset dementia, and even Alzheimer’s. Pregnant women and children are at particularly high risk. Evidence shows that EMF exposure before and shortly after birth can lead to ADHD and autism. “FCC-compliant” radiation levels do not equal “safe” Tragically enough, the over 2,000 peer-reviewed studies documenting the biological and health effects inflicted on humans by non-ionizing radiation were not enough to warrant the adoption of federal safety standards. Hundreds of recent studies demonstrate adverse health effects from headaches to many types of cancer, including brain cancer caused by levels far lower than those considered acceptable by the FCC. Nonetheless, governing bodies conducted no long-term studies to ensure public safety. Instead, the US government issued “guidelines” developed by the industry, using outdated research. Rosemary extract protects against the harmful effects of EMF Although the repercussions of long-term EMF exposure can be severe, the good news is, you can help buffer your body against its damaging effects. A popular culinary herb may allow your cells to recover from overexposure and remove some of the radiation from your body. Rosemary is a common herb that is well-known for its potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. In a 2020 study, scientists tested the antioxidant property of rosemary extract by exposing rats to electromagnetic fields. Results showed that rosemary extract reduced EMFs’ destructive effect, confirming its potential preventative benefits. In a 2016 study, a group of researchers came to similar conclusions after exposing rats to mobile phone EMFs. In rats not treated with rosemary, EMF exposure induced structural changes in connective tissues, and increased oxidative stress. Rats treated with rosemary extract faired much better and experienced a boost in antioxidant activity. How to use rosemary for EMF protection You can take rosemary extract in a tincture or capsules. However, drinking a cup of rosemary tea daily may be the easiest way to benefit from the herb’s protective compounds. Boil 1-2 cups of water. Add 1-2 inches of finely chopped rosemary leaves to your cup. Pour hot water over the leaves. Allow to steep for 10 minutes, strain, and enjoy!

Michael Greger M.D. FACLM via NutritionFacts – Caramel coloring may be the most widely consumed food coloring in the world. Unfortunately, its manufacture can sometimes lead to the formation of a carcinogen called methylimidazole, which was identified as a cancer-causing chemical in 2007. For the purposes of its Proposition 65 labeling law, California set a daily limit at 29 micrograms a day. So, how much cancer might caramel-colored soft drinks be causing? We didn’t know…until now… My video Which has more Caramel Coloring Carcinogens: Coke or Pepsi? explores these questions and more. Researchers tested 110 soft drink samples off store shelves in California and around the New York metropolitan area, including Connecticut and New Jersey. None of the carcinogen was found in Sprite, which is what you’d expect since Sprite isn’t caramel-colored brown. Among sodas that are, the highest levels were found in a Goya brand soda, while the lowest levels were in Coke products, which were about 20 times less than Pepsi products. Interestingly, California Pepsi was significantly less carcinogenic than New York Pepsi. “This supports the notion that [labeling laws like] Proposition 65…can incentivize manufacturers to reduce foodborne chemical risks…” To protect consumers around the rest of the country, federal regulations could be a valuable approach to reducing excess cancer risk—but how much cancer are we talking about? Johns Hopkins researchers calculated the cancer burden, an estimate of the number of lifetime excess cancer cases associated with the consumption of the various beverages. So, at the average U.S. soda intake, with the average levels of carcinogens found, Pepsi may be causing thousands of cancer cases, especially non-California Pepsi products, which appear to be causing 20 times more cancer than Coke. Of course, there’s no need for any of them to have any these carcinogens at all “as caramel colorings serve only a cosmetic purpose [and] could be omitted from foods and beverages…” But we don’t have to wait for government regulation or corporate social responsibility; we can exercise personal responsibility and just stop drinking soda altogether. Cutting out soda may reduce our risk of becoming obese and getting diabetes, getting fatty liver disease, suffering hip fractures, developing rheumatoid arthritis, developing chronic kidney disease, and maybe developing gout, as well. In children, daily soda consumption may increase the odds of asthma five-fold and increase the risk of premature puberty in girls, raising the likelihood they start getting their periods before age 11 by as much as 47 percent. If we look at the back of people’s eyes, we can measure the caliber of the arteries in their retina, and the narrower they are, the higher the risk of high blood pressure, diabetes, and heart disease. Researchers performed these kinds of measurements on thousands of 12-year-olds and asked them about their soda drinking habits. Their findings? Children who consume soft drinks daily have significantly narrower arteries. “The message to patients can no longer remain the simplistic mantra ‘eat less, exercise more.'” It matters what you eat. “[S]pecific dietary advice should be to significantly reduce the consumption of processed food and added sugar and to eat more whole foods.” This article has been modified.
